Journey to Lundy Island
Your adventure begins with a scenic boat ride from Ilfracombe to Lundy Island, lasting just over an hour. Keep your eyes peeled during the journey as it's common to encounter dolphins frolicking alongside the boat. As we approach Lundy, the stunning coastline unveils itself, setting the stage for an unforgettable day.
A Morning with the Seals
Upon arrival at Lundy, you'll dive into the pristine waters of the island's many coves and bays, part of the UK's first marine conservation zone. Home to over 200 friendly grey seals, these waters offer a chance to swim with these curious creatures, often referred to as the 'puppies of the sea' due to their playful and inquisitive nature. They love to swim close, sometimes even tugging at fins, offering a gentle reminder of the wonders of wildlife interaction.
Explore Lundy Island
After your swim, warm up with a complimentary hot drink aboard our vessel before we dock at the island. You'll have several hours to explore Lundy at your leisure. Wander the coastal paths, enjoy lunch at the Tavern, or continue your wildlife exploration in search of puffins and other native birds that make the island a biodiversity hotspot.
Options for Divers and Snorkelers
For those who prefer diving, the island’s sheltered bays offer perfect conditions for a second dive. Divers must be pre-qualified, as we do not offer training courses. Please bring your certification and medical fit-to-dive documents. Snorkelers aren't left out; we provide wetsuit and snorkel gear hire, ensuring everyone can enjoy the water comfortably. Our 5mm winter suits keep you warm, extending your time spent with the seals.
Practicalities of Your Trip
Our trips run daily from May until early October, with departure times adjusted based on the tides, generally between 8:00 am and 9:30 am. Each trip lasts approximately 8 hours, allowing plenty of time for both sea and land activities. While lunch isn't provided, the island offers delightful spots for a meal, or you can pre-arrange your dining with us.
Please note, we do not offer children’s wetsuits, so it’s best to bring your own for younger swimmers. Our adult suits are suitable for children aged 12 and upwards, depending on height.
